More dead hard drives

compute-1-8 and compute-1-13 appear to have dead hard drives. Time to tear them apart and see what’s up. I’m about out of spare hard drives, too – I’ll have to order some.

20GB IBM Deskstar in compute-1-8. Warranty expired in 2003. I guess it’s paid its dues 🙂 Replaced with a used 40GB Samsung for lack of available new hard drives. I forgot that the BIOS upgrade I had to do to these motherboards for the Phenoms took the PXE boot ability away. Annoying. I’ll have to use the USB DVD burner that is still sitting behind the rack for that purpose….

Stuck the last 80GB SATA drive I had in compute-1-13. Maybe I’ll go raid my collection of old hard drives at home. There’s no reason to buy new ones when old 40GB drives work just as well, except, I suppose, that I might have to replace them slightly more often.
